Don't go over to etsy or pinterest, it'll make you want to kill yourself.
Since I've always considered myself 'artsy' and creative, looking back on the last 10 years and realizing I haven't done jack or crap as far as 'art' is concerned, I decided it's time to do something. I'm not going to take any classes or follow some self-learning webisodes, I'm just going to start doing stuff.
Yes, stuff. I think it will be best to start out small. I've been sitting on a project for years now that should be relatively simple and inexpensive and will make me incredibly proud once it's finished. I've got two words for ya: Snapple caps.
For those of you that aren't avid Snapple drinkers, Snapple prints random facts on the inside of its bottle caps. They're aluminum and are twist-off but don't have the beveled edges that twist-off caps have, so they are perfectly round and sturdy. They can last forever, I tell you! When I began my lifelong love affair with Snapple's beverages, I was tickled with every new cap I unscrewed and it seemed like a waste to throw them away. So I did what any logical, sane person would do; I started saving them.
In my nomadic movements I've misplaced a shoebox containing caps, but luckily I had an overflow box which has been steadily filling up and now has 118 caps inside. My mission is now to clean and sort them and ultimately affix them to something that I intend to hang in my living room. It shall be... (drumroll)... THE WALL OF SNAPPLE KNOWLEDGE!
Initially I thought I would just take a hot glue gun and stick them fact-side-out to a giant piece of glorified cardboard and go from there. But now I am formulating a new and better plan that will hopefully be more aesthetically pleasing than a bunch of bottle caps stuck to a broken-down diaper box. Of course this project won't last long without Snapple caps, and while I am doing my part by drinking two 6-packs each week, I think for the scale of my goal I may need some help.
That's why I'm starting this blog. I need Snapple caps, people! Are there any devout Snapple fanatics out there who are just tossing their bottles and caps? If so, and you want to be a part of something awesomely random, send me that ish!
I believe there are over 1,000 Snapple facts. And while I'm not keen on buying that much glue, I think 500 caps is a good number to work with. Interestingly, while googling Snapple facts, I found this blog: http://mysnapplerealfacts.blogspot.com/ which actually fact-checks the caps.
So contact me for PO Box info. If it's a large number of caps and shipping is too costly, I'll use my paypal to pay up.
I'll be posting progress and could also use ideas about mounting them and preserving them and junk. I also think I'll be undertaking a collage project but I need to do more research about that before I get into it.
I'm super excited to find out how to do this and I'm even thinking about emailing Snapple and letting them know, maybe they'll send me coupons for being such a Snapple freak!
